What Is Composite Bonding?

Composite bonding uses a tooth-colored resin material shaped to restore or improve the appearance of your teeth. The color is matched to your natural teeth so the repair blends in seamlessly.

At Confluence Dental, we use an injection moulding technique for composite bonding. This involves ordering a custom guide from a dental lab, which ensures exceptional precision in the final result. It's more accurate than freehand bonding and delivers consistently beautiful outcomes.

The Bonding Process

  • Your dentist examines your teeth, discusses your goals, and takes detailed impressions and photos. A custom injection mould guide is created by our dental lab.

  • Using the lab-fabricated guide, your dentist applies composite resin with precision. The guide ensures the material is placed exactly where it needs to be for a perfect fit.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • No. Most bonding procedures don't require anesthesia at all. You'll feel pressure and vibration, but no pain.

  • With proper care, bonding lasts 5–10 years. It's not permanent like a veneer or crown, but it's easy and affordable to touch up.

  • Two visits. The first is for consultation and data collection, including impressions sent to our lab. The second is for the actual bonding treatment using a custom lab guide.

  • Bonding is one of the most affordable cosmetic procedures. Cost varies based on the number of teeth and complexity.

  • Bonding uses composite resin and our injection moulding technique. Veneers are custom porcelain shells made in a lab. Veneers last longer (10–15 years vs. 5–10) and resist staining better. Bonding is less expensive and less invasive. Your dentist will recommend the best option.

  • Two visits. The first is for consultation and data collection, including impressions sent to our lab. The second is for the actual bonding treatment using a custom lab guide. Most patients complete the process within a few weeks.

  • Bonding can improve the appearance of mildly uneven teeth by reshaping them visually. For significant crookedness, Invisalign or veneers may be a better option.
